With the visit during our second session today from Dean Christopher Callahan my mind began to wrap around the concept of change for my news organization. This year we did three papers and a series of psa videos for the district attorney. I was pretty excited about what we executed but I know we need to do more. So after lunch today I began to setup what I thought I could begin with to get the news out to middle school students. I established a library on http://issuu.com/dsmsscorpiontimes which was super easy and I love how it looks. I then in turn went to http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ and made a qr code that linked the issuu site to it. So now students can scan the code and go directly to our newspaper (like you can do below).
I also set up a twitter account for my newspaper and two facebook pages, one for the newspaper and one for the morning announcements linking their pages to their YouTube accounts. I sent out the facebook pages to my teachers since I am not friends with my students online, just to start to spread the news and I already have a like on it. All of this during lunch is pretty awesome! Now I am going to begin the process of setting up myhsj.org which will probably take longer than my lunch time to do it but I know that it is feasible and I am excited for the challenge. I had been pondering doing this all the last two weeks and after hearing Dean Callahan I knew I had to set our school up for it and to be ready for the change. I am excited to see what will be next!

Wow...you go, Heather! What a great set of accomplishments today. Can't wait to get an iPhone 4s when I get home so I can read QR codes; it will open up a whole new world for me. So great for your kids that you're ahead of the crowd. I think I'd love to be in your class. :)

Debbie you an download a free QR reader called i-ingma for free and use it on your Droid too:) Thanks for the warm compliment too!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking I should put the QR code on labels and paste them around the campus like our morning presenter suggested too!
ReplyDeleteWow, all I did today during lunch was feed my face. It sounds like you fed your soul and took some action to put together a action plan for next year. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking tomorrow I should skip lunch and do a little research and create new accounts like you did today.
Thank you for the inspiration!
