Social Media News in Action

I'm anxiously monitoring the news from home since there's a wildfire VERY close to home that just started this afternoon in Boulder.

In the comment thread following today's article in the local newspaper about the fire, I found this:

And yes, the local newspaper is doing a pretty good job there getting updates out. This speaks to the power of these social media tools.

Twitter helped me to discover that the senior parking lot of my school is staging the fire crews:

I'm not there but I've got up-to-the minute information about what's going on. That helps my anxiety a bit. So I'll monitor the Twitter and the Facebook for the evening. 
And the local newspaper too.

  1. If they were your friends, I suppose you should have asked for their permission, but in this case it's not an issue because we don't really know them anyway and aren't likely to discover that anyone is in the witness protection program or an escaped criminal.

    As for the use of FB and Twitter, it's a great example of its usefulness. Thanks for the post.

    I hope everything is quieting down.
