Kristy Roschke echoed what I've heard for the past two weeks at the institute: school publications need an online presence. After her session I began to envision our publication. I especially like the idea of the newspaper becoming more of a news magazine.
In the past we have printed too many papers. (Twelve issues, year one; Ten issues, year two.) Deadlines were crazy, and as a result, the quality of the articles and the design of the paper were inferior. If we take more time with our print edition, we can do a much better job. We can use our website for fast-breaking news to keep the school informed. We can also use the website to connect to students by posting photos, videos, etc. We can also use it to generate more revenue through ad sales.
I am leaning strongly towards the www.schoolnewspapersonline.com option because it's designed especially for school publications. I know the initial set up is expensive, but if we cut back on the number of papers we print, we can afford it.
