Devilish Heat.

Today was another adventure, only this time outdoors- after a crash course in wide shots, tight shots, medium shots, action and reaction from Brian Snyder, teams headed outside (afuera) to interact with folks on the street to inquire on exactly how these Phoenicians deal with the heat. (And of course, the irony of the Heat becoming NBA world champions this evening). Our interviews included tourists from Romania and England as well as several local folks who were old pros at the morning toil, the shade, and of course- the water...

Fortunately for me, my team was also a winner- while I conducted interviews, our cameraman Stan demonstrated some serious prowess framing and composing shots while Sarah polished things off on our video with some serious editing skills (lucky us!)- and our personal and professional rapport was also reinforced much to my delight.

Brian's lecture in the morning definitely fired me up and inspired me to help engage students, and provide some fun yet rigorous video assignments where expectations should never be lowered- providing these tools to students is essential to furthering our agendas as instructors and handlers of the future of the journalism world.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed (and survived) the experience. Can't wait to see the final product.

  2. All the visuals and demonstrations made Brian's lecture very interesting. A concept I need to remember come fall. This also made me resent the media arts class we have at my school and the "journalism" they are doing. Yuck. Hopefully, once I get my paper together I can help out that teacher, or even better, suggest he apply for this program next year!

It would be great to get some good news videos online once I get my paper up there as well.

  3. I really enjoyed today. It was fun running around with a video camera and a project to complete. Every where I turned I say "potential interviewees". Hope I can pass on the same excitement to my students!

  4. I also had a great day. It was hot--yes, Devilishly hot, but it was so nice to get out and about and see what all was going on around town on a hot, hot, hot day! I'm so glad your group worked well together. We too had a solid group working together. It was like everyone was made for a certain part of the project. We all got to do what we enjoyed doing the most! What fun!
