Blatant thievery to result in redesign

Above is the logo for my school publication. Obviously it's cute. I designed it, but it was a student's idea. How could I say no to this?

I probably should not keep using this due to copyright issues, but my kids are going to be pretty sad.

I'm not sure what Tracy Collins would have said about it (I forgot to send it to him). I guess he would say it takes up too much space. He probably wouldn't like the slanting.

I have a pretty good grasp on layout and design. I designed boring inside pages for a living for a while, but I didn't get to do much creative stuff. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have at least one really artistic kid on staff this year or a moment of brilliant inspiration.

I shouldn't be too bummed out, right? Angry birds won't be popular forever.

  1. Time to move on, Elaine. I think you are right to consider the waning popularity of Angry Birds to feel better about what you know you have to do, anyway.

On the bright side, it is good to give new staff the ownership of the new design. Just tell the students that you want to do something more mature this year, and you were inadvertently violating copyright.

I heard about a school that used Disney characters as a theme in their yearbook, and the printer made them redesign the entire book, because Disney would surely find them.

  2. If you kept this logo, you'd have kids in three years who wouldn't know what is was.
