Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett...What a Silly Man

Arizona Secretary of State, Ken Bennett...what a silly man. When he sent Arizona officials to Hawaii last month, to look for documents that would confirm President Obama's Hawaiian birth, many of us wondered why Bennett didn't just Google for them.

We have trouble understanding what the so-called "birther" issue is all about. His mother attended the University of Hawaii where she met a man from Kenya, and married him against the wishes of her mother and father. Six months after her marriage to Barak Obama, Sr. she gave birth to a son.

His biography is an open story for all to see. Everyone in Hawaii knows about how his grandmother cared for his mother in the final stages of cancer. We pass by the tiny apartment where he lived while attending the Punahou School. When he returns to Hawaii with his family for vacation, we welcome him as a returning son.

We wonder why a story such as this would be so unbelievable to others on the mainland. Why would he need the sort of documentation to "prove" his Hawaiian birth, when no other Presidential candidate has had to respond to such demands?

It doesn't make sense.

  1. It's funny, being a native of Phoenix (I don't like the term Phoenician), I am so proud of where I'm from. I love Arizona and all the great things the state offers. I've lived and traveled to many parts of the country and would not want to live anywhere else. Whether it's Phoenix, Tucson, Flagstaff (maybe not Yuma) I embrace the Grand Canyon State, but I am so embarrassed by the national perception of the state. Most times it's warranted and It seems that every time their is news from Arizona, it's a Daily Show piece (both figurative and literal). A lot of it stems from the politics, which isn't my point to get into a political argument. Just that I want things to improve in this state, like I'm sure everyone does in their home state. I hope you all enjoy your time here.

  2. Argument by inference is one of the worst of logical fallacies. To judge the character of a state by the silliness of a few is a great example of non sequitur. I, too, am concerned that the misinformation given by a few about my state and its favorite son can lead to unfortunate conclusions. Please know that my parents lived in Arizona for twenty-five years. Their ashes are scattered in a desert garden in Sun City West. Arizona will always be part of my family. From wherever we come, we are one.
